STUDENTS FROM MALAYSIA
Reviewed . Admission and immigration requirements can change.
Prepare your SPM, STPM, UEC or other qualifications, subject results and transcripts. Each Canadian institution sets its own entry requirements: holding a qualification does not mean automatic admission, advanced standing or transfer credit.
Check the required subjects, minimum grades, language evidence and whether official translations or documents sent directly by your school are needed. Keep conditional offers separate from final admission.
Compare Canadian universities →Look at the credential, campus, teaching language, length and actual courses. A language course, a college diploma and a university degree lead to different outcomes. Ask what happens if you do not meet the requirements for the next stage of a proposed pathway.
Make a shortlist and record deadlines, deposits, refund terms and any conditions attached to a place. For a younger student, include accommodation and adult support in the same decision.
Choose a study pathway →Start with the school’s international tuition quote. Add compulsory fees, housing, food, insurance, transport, travel and arrival costs. Match the budget to the full period you will live in Canada, including breaks.
Keep the original Canadian-dollar amounts alongside your ringgit estimate. Date the exchange rate and add the transfer provider’s charges. Scholarships still under review and a job you hope to find are not confirmed funds.
Build your budget → · Explore funding →A school offer and permission to enter or study in Canada are separate steps. Verify the requirements for your level, institution and province before paying non-refundable costs. Organise your funding evidence, accommodation and health coverage together.
Do not assume that admission guarantees a study permit, a job or permission to remain after graduation. Build your plan around the program you actually intend to complete.
Understand travel and study documents →Eligible international students may work off campus for up to 24 hours a week during regular academic terms, counting all their off-campus jobs together. Eligibility includes a qualifying program of at least six months leading to a credential, the required study status and permit conditions, and a Social Insurance Number. Work cannot begin before studies start.
Scheduled breaks have separate conditions that may allow full-time work. Studying only English or French as a second language, general-interest courses or admission prerequisites does not by itself qualify you for off-campus student work. On-campus jobs and required placements follow their own rules; the off-campus limit should not be applied indiscriminately to every situation.
Plan to finance your studies without relying on a Canadian job that you have not secured. Immigration financial evidence is assessed separately from the possibility of working later.
The former Canadian Education Centre Network is no longer operating. Telephone numbers and office details quoted in older Malaysian school directories are not current StudyCanada contacts. Send your question through the current form and describe your qualification, intended level, preferred intake and budget.
StudyCanada provides information and orientation. It does not issue visas, decide admissions or act as a Canadian consulate.
