Saint Mary’s and Grenoble laboratories (CNRS) form La Hève consortium to advance excavations at Fort‑Sainte‑Marie‑de‑Grâce
Saint Mary’s (Halifax) and laboratories from Université Grenoble Alpes, backed by CNRS, have formed the La Hève Research Consortium to advance excavations at Fort‑Sainte‑Marie‑de‑Grâce, the Acadian capital from 1632–1636. The 2023‑started project combines French and Canadian expertise, public archaeology events and co‑supervision opportunities for students.
Researchers from Université Grenoble Alpes and CNRS laboratories are joining the University of Saint Mary’s (Halifax) team in the new La Hève Research Consortium to continue archaeological excavations at the Fort‑Sainte‑Marie‑de‑Grâce National Historic Site in LaHave, Nova Scotia. Saint Mary’s has been conducting fieldwork since 2023 and has involved the public during Acadian Heritage Month. The collaboration aims to fill archival gaps, locate colonial structures, provide co‑supervision that strengthens student training and transatlantic methodological skills, and support joint publications.
