以比較民族誌與歷史方法探討殖民主義，主題包括殖民政權之形成、殖民治理術、奴役勞動制度、宣教活動、反殖民抵抗、文化雜揉與後殖民記憶等。探討有關殖民主義與社會科學知識生產之關係的辯論。
