Indigenous garden and food forest established at Durham College’s Whitby Campus

Kildepublikasjon : 2026-10-07 · Durham College

Durham College oppretter en Indigenous garden innenfor sin food forest ved Whitby Campus; den Indigenous‑led installationen begynte med en ground blessing i May 2026 og støtter hands‑on student learning.

Durham College’s Whitby Campus har etablert en Indigenous garden som en del av sin food forest, i partnerskap med Barrett Centre of Innovation in Sustainable Urban Agriculture. Initiated with a ground blessing in May 2026, installasjonen inneholder medisinske planter som sweetgrass og tobacco og bygger på Anishinaabe teachings, inkludert the Seven Grandfather Teachings. Den fungerer som et tverrfaglig læringssted: hortikulturstudenter håndterer planting og harvesting, snekringstudenter bygde raised beds og benches, graphic design produserte signage og QR elements, og Culinary Management utforsker culinary uses. A naming ceremony vil formelt annonsere hagens Anishinaabe name.
