UdeM expands teacher‑training residency: coursework and supervised classroom practice now in 4 Côte‑des‑Neiges schools
The University of Montreal expands its teacher‑training residency—after a three‑year pilot at Vanguard—into four CSSDM schools in Côte‑des‑Neiges. The model pairs university coursework with on‑site supervised practice, co‑teaching and mentorship, backed by philanthropic funding.
The University of Montreal (UdeM) is expanding its teacher‑training residency: after a three‑year pilot at Vanguard School, the program now operates in four schools within the CSSDM’s Côte‑des‑Neiges area. The residency integrates university courses and supervised classroom practice simultaneously, introduces co‑teaching in the fall, and places students under school and university mentorship. Philanthropic support includes $5 million from the Fondation Famille Michel Fournelle and $2 million from UdeM’s chancellor Frantz Saintellemy. UdeM aims to grow to about twenty associated schools and says the initiative has attracted interest from international organizations such as UNESCO.
