UQTR launches research accompaniment program to support newly hired faculty

Source publication : 2026-10-09 · The Conversation — Canada français

Université du Québec à Trois‑Rivières (UQTR) launched a Research Accompaniment Program for newly hired faculty, featuring a framework of 15 competencies across five domains, group support, optional mentoring and a teaching release in the first year.

Co‑designed by vice‑deans for research between 2020 and 2022, the program centers on a framework that lists fifteen key competencies—career planning, research design and funding, team and resource management, dissemination, inclusion and well‑being among them. New faculty follow a year of support including an early individual meeting with a vice‑dean, reflective workshops, and optional mentorship lasting one to eighteen months. Three advancement levels (emerging, established, advanced) serve for self‑assessment and progressive skills development. The initiative is now part of institutional onboarding and includes a teaching release in the first year.
