McGill welcomes five new Loran Scholars starting in fall 2026. The award provides approximately $150,000 over four years, plus mentorship, work placements and membership in a national scholars network. Recipients pursue studies in economics, sustainability, physics, mechatronics and computer engineering.

Five students have begun their first semester at McGill as Loran Scholars in fall 2026. The cohort — Anisa Abduhamedova (economics), Timo Joubert (Sustainability Science and Society), Bazyl Rudnicki (physics), George Rayal (mechatronics) and Yasmine Ben Arous (computer engineering) — pursue interests from development economics to AI safety and assistive medical technologies. The Loran Award provides about $150,000 per scholar across four years, and includes mentorship, work-experience opportunities and access to a national network of scholars.
