On October 8, 2026, Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus received the 2026 ENERGY STAR Award for Building of the Year (College/University/CÉGEP) from Natural Resources Canada. The campus ranks among the top 25% of comparable facilities nationwide and was earlier the first Canadian college to earn ENERGY STAR certification. Opened in 2012 to LEED Silver standards, Pembroke advanced energy performance through a campus-wide LED retrofit, an Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) project and continuous energy monitoring. The award highlights the college’s Sustainable Algonquin initiative and ongoing facility investments supporting efficient operations, teaching, research and community activities.
