UBC spin‑off Dream Photonics scales up: $110,000 prize and $1.1M funding to produce micro‑lenses
Dream Photonics, spun out of UBC research, is industrializing 3D‑printed micro‑lenses to link photonics and electronics. Profitable since 2021, it reported $1.6M revenue in 2025, won $110,000 at New Ventures BC (Sept. 2026) and secured $1.1M from PacificCan to equip its facility this fall.
Originating in a UBC lab, Dream Photonics makes customizable 3D‑printed micro‑lenses that simplify optical alignment between chips, cutting a manufacturing step from roughly 80 minutes to about 35 seconds. Founded in 2020 and profitable since 2021, the company earned $1.6M in 2025, employs over a dozen people (mostly UBC graduates) and holds multiple patent filings and licenses. The $110,000 Innovate BC prize (Sept. 2026) and $1.1M PacificCan award will fund infrastructure to move production into its own facility this fall.
