On Sept. 28, 2026, McMaster launched a municipal edition of Vote Compass, a research‑driven tool led by Clifton van der Linden in collaboration with Vox Pop Labs and Torstar. The platform lets users compare their views with local mayoral and councillor candidates across 30 issues (20 universal, 10 local) in Ontario’s 50 largest municipalities. Over 2,300 candidates were listed, with 1,200+ submitting positions, and by early October the tool had been used by more than 65,000 people. The project builds on Vote Compass’s use in 75+ previous elections and aims to improve local electoral information.
