David MacKenzie, BA ’74, was awarded the Brock University Alumni Association’s 2026 David Betzner Award in recognition of decades of volunteer service and support for Brock’s arts. After joining Brock as Data Processing Manager in 1968, he completed drama studies—performing as Polonius in 1970—and later wrote more than 20 plays for Carousel Players. MacKenzie became known for bringing local history to the stage, notably portraying William Hamilton Merritt, and contributed to campus life through bursary support, fundraising, help building the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre and designing the BUAA’s 50th‑anniversary tartan. He had previously received a BUAA humanities graduate distinction in 2009.
