On 30 September 2026 Durham College held its second Mini Powwow, organized by the First Peoples Indigenous Centre to mark Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The campus event honored residential school Survivors and included ceremonies, workshops and activities at the Oshawa campus.

Morning programming featured an opening prayer, a sacred fire lighting, drumming and dance led by Elders and Indigenous performers; the afternoon offered plant‑teachings workshops, fireside conversations, vendors and drop‑in crafts. Activities took place in the Naanaagide’endamowin 'The Art of Thinking' Courtyard and inside the FPIC in the Centre for Collaborative Education. Organizers included alumni, FPIC staff and student groups; resources were shared to support continued learning about reconciliation and Indigenous perspectives within college life.
