Cristina Santos (Brock) publishes study on ‘monstrous mothers’; book launch set for Oct 28, 2026 in Toronto
Associate Professor Cristina Santos (Modern Languages, Brock) leads research on portrayals of ‘monstrous mothers’ and co‑edits Horror and Mother/hoods in a Global Cultural Imaginary. The book’s launch is scheduled for Oct. 28, 2026 in Toronto; event details are posted by the university.
At Brock, Associate Professor Cristina Santos examines how popular culture — novels, film and television — frames motherhood by sometimes depicting mothers as ‘monstrous.’ Her scholarship links literary analysis to contemporary questions of health and bodily autonomy. Santos co‑edited Horror and Mother/hoods in a Global Cultural Imaginary with Rachel Davidson and Sarah Revilla‑Sanchez, a collection of essays addressing these tropes globally. The book has been published and a launch event is planned for Oct. 28, 2026 in Toronto; practical information is available through Brock University.
