Martin Tammemägi awarded IASLC 2026 Joseph W. Cullen Prize for lifetime achievement in lung‑cancer prevention
Martin Tammemägi (Brock University) won the 2026 Joseph W. Cullen Prevention/Early Detection Award for lifetime leadership in thoracic cancer prevention. Creator of the PLCOm2012 risk model, he is adapting it for air pollution, people living with HIV and Indigenous populations.
Professor Emeritus Martin Tammemägi of Brock University was awarded the 2026 Joseph W. Cullen Prevention/Early Detection Award by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, presented Sept. 12 at the IASLC World Conference. Over a 36‑year career he created the PLCOm2012 lung‑cancer risk model, now used by the UK’s NHS and screening programs in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. He co‑leads the international FALCONS study on lung cancer in never‑smokers and is expanding his model to include air pollution, HIV status and Indigenous‑population adjustments, working with the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer and Statistics Canada.
