At a deans’ retreat (4–6 Oct 2026) held at the GMF‑U des Etchemins, Université Laval reaffirmed support for medical education in Chaudière‑Appalaches. In 2026, 22 junior clerks undertake an integrated longitudinal clerkship in Lévis, Montmagny and Thetford Mines; the GMF‑U des Etchemins has trained over 150 residents since 1984.

Laval highlights ongoing collaboration with Santé Québec Chaudière‑Appalaches and local clinical teams to expand placements and community‑based supervision. The GMF‑U des Etchemins, active since 1984, remains central to regional training; the Lévis teaching pavilion has hosted 138 students who began their MD. The integrated longitudinal clerkship provides early, sustained exposure to family medicine in regional settings, helping students integrate into host communities as training capacity grows.
