Katherine Bujold appointed Canada Research Chair to develop DNA nanostructures for cellular repair
McMaster names Katherine Bujold a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Nucleic Acid Nanostructures. Her lab engineers synthetic nucleic acids and DNA assemblies — including a first ‘nanosuitcase’ carrying targeted genetic material — and co‑founded PentaPink Biotechnology to advance translation toward therapeutics.
Katherine Bujold, assistant professor in Chemistry & Chemical Biology at McMaster, was appointed a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Nucleic Acid Nanostructures. Her team develops oligonucleotide chemistry, DNA self‑assembly and delivery strategies to introduce corrective genetic instructions into dysfunctional cells. The lab reported assembling a prototype ‘nanosuitcase’ to deliver targeted genetic material and is pursuing delivery materials for infectious diseases, genetic disorders and cancer. Bujold is co‑founder and chief science officer of PentaPink Biotechnology to help translate lab discoveries.
