On September 28, 2026, the Faculty of Medicine hosted the Ceremony for First Nations and Inuit Students in Québec (PNIQ). The evening included a communal supper, speeches, and an homage to Joyce Echaquan on the sixth anniversary of her death. Mentors, elders and partners attended as the faculty presented the medicine wheel and placed symbolic ribbons and a braid of sweetgrass to mark academic and clinical milestones. Students in medicine, physiotherapy and sexology were recognized. The dean noted that the Program for First Nations and Inuit in Québec, in place for over fifteen years, has helped dozens of graduates enter health professions and the broader health system.
