UQAM updates Bachelor in Philosophy: 90 credits, new courses on AI ethics, health and critical race philosophy (Fall 2026)

Source publication : 2026-10-05 · Université du Québec à Montréal

UQAM redesigned its Bachelor of Philosophy (90 credits); the first cohort began fall 2026. The 10-course core is strengthened by a methodological course. New offerings include philosophy of health, AI ethics and critical philosophy of race. Two college teaching placements are included. The program allows part- or full-time study. Admission deadlines: 1 Nov 2026 (Winter 2027) and 1 Aug 2027 (Fall 2027).

The 90-credit program (30 courses) covers canonical and non-canonical authors, historical periods and multiple traditions while explicitly integrating recovered works by historically marginalized figures (Gabrielle Suchon, Mary Wollstonecraft, Watsuji Tetsurō, Frantz Fanon). The curriculum includes a reinforced core of ten courses and six open electives, and introduces a methodological course to train students in text analysis, problem formulation and argumentation. New specialized courses address philosophy of health, AI ethics and logical skills. Two teaching placements with redesigned content were developed in collaboration with college instructors. The program also provides peer tutoring and support for scholarship applications.
