University of Guelph holds inaugural Black Graduation and Achievement Ceremony

In 2026 the University of Guelph held its first Black Graduation and Achievement Ceremony, celebrating 30 graduates in person and five online. Led by student groups with institutional support, the event awarded Kente stoles and prizes for leadership, scholarship and community engagement, with backing from the EDI Enhancement Fund.

The University of Guelph’s inaugural Black Graduation and Achievement Ceremony, held earlier in 2026, honored 30 graduates who attended in person and five virtually. Student leaders worked with university staff and an expanded committee of faculty, alumni and administrators, securing support from the EDI Enhancement Fund. Graduates received Kente stoles and awards for leadership, scholarship and community engagement. Guest speaker Naki Osutei and Chancellor Mary Anne Chambers addressed attendees. Organizers plan to make the event a lasting campus tradition.
