Source publication : 2026-10-09 · Memorial University

Memorial University reports campus renewal progress: a $70M provincial investment over eight years, demolition of Coughlan College (Aug 2026), ~500 m of tunnels re‑waterproofed and an $8M plan to modernize elevators.

Memorial University outlines tangible campus and operational improvements backed by a $70 million provincial investment over eight years. In August 2026 the demolition of Coughlan College removed about $8.4M in deferred‑maintenance liability and roughly 39,000 sq ft. During summer 2026 some 500 metres of campus tunnels were re‑waterproofed and elevator condition assessments completed in May 2026 informed an $8M elevator‑modernization plan over the next eight years. In response to Auditor General reports (2023 and Jan 2025), 62% of recommended actions are implemented and 27% are in progress; over 80% of facilities recommendations are complete or underway.
