UQAM launches Climate–Tourism Adaptation Chair and Métalab (launched 19 Oct 2026)
On 19 Oct 2026 UQAM inaugurated the Climate–Tourism Adaptation Chair, led by Dominic Lapointe. In partnership with the Québec Ministry of Tourism, the chair launches Métalab to build communities of practice, an adaptation observatory and applied living labs.
The Climate–Tourism Adaptation Chair (holder: Dominic Lapointe) was officially launched on 19 October 2026 at UQAM with university and ministry representatives. The chair’s main initiative, Métalab — developed with the Ministry of Tourism under the 2025–2030 Sustainable Tourism Growth Strategy — aims to form communities of practice, create an observatory of adaptation, and promote applied research. Five living labs are already active: territorial labs in the Îles‑de‑la‑Madeleine and the Laurentians, and three thematic labs addressing adaptation of tourism organizations; multisession outdoor activities and recreational natural areas; and adaptation trajectories of Québec’s tourism system. Researchers and graduate students may register projects within three defined research axes.
