On September 10, 2026, the University of Ottawa launched Black Med Mentorship (BMM), a one‑on‑one near‑peer mentorship initiative for Black students preparing for medical school. Created by Dr. Salomon Fotsing with the Association of Black Aspiring Physicians and Black Med Collective, BMM uses a staircase pairing model: high‑school graduates → 1st–2nd year undergrads → upper‑year students → medical students. The inaugural cohort includes 55 mentees and 32 trained mentors who meet monthly from September to August using an online platform for tailored pairings. Registration for this cohort has closed; applications reopen May 15.
