McMaster has launched the Futures Institute after an $8‑million gift. Led by Sanjay Khanna, the institute plans a certificate in Futures Thinking and Social Innovation, practical student experiences, a national symposium and partnerships with community and research partners.
The Futures Institute at McMaster, established with an $8‑million gift from the late Red Wilson’s estate, will teach evidence‑informed futures thinking to prepare students for complex societal challenges. Under inaugural director Sanjay Khanna, the institute will develop a certificate in Futures Thinking and Social Innovation, host foresight experts, organize a national symposium, and collaborate with community organizations and researchers across Canada and internationally. Activities will combine introductory courses, hands‑on projects and networking opportunities designed to help students contribute to civic decision‑making and resilience.
