McGill launches AgPrécision: agricultural research network for Quebec agronomists
McGill’s Macdonald Campus launched AgPrécision, funded by Quebec’s agriculture ministry (MAPAQ), to coordinate over 200 on‑farm trials across three years and share region‑specific results with agronomists and producers.
Professor Viacheslav Adamchuk (Chair, Bioresource Engineering) launched AgPrécision this summer at Macdonald Campus. Backed by MAPAQ, the project will run more than 200 experiments across five Quebec regions — Lanaudière, Laurentides, Centre‑du‑Québec, Montérégie and Chaudière‑Appalaches — focusing on soil nutrient management, cover crops, new agricultural products and cropping systems for soy, corn and forage. A French‑language platform will use precision agriculture tools (GPS, soil sensors) to generate local datasets and side‑by‑side statistical comparisons. The team is actively recruiting agronomists and plans for the network to be self‑sustaining by 2029.
