Dalhousie student launches Make‑A‑Wish society to fundraise, recruit volunteers and connect wish recipients
Dalhousie student Zeen Ali and peer Angel Womack launched the Dalhousie Make‑A‑Wish Society to support Make‑A‑Wish Canada through fundraising, volunteer recruitment and awareness. The group recruited at Orientation Week and plans fundraisers, including a potential Halloween bake sale in October 2026.
Motivated by her experience as a Make‑A‑Wish recipient, Zeen Ali — diagnosed with nephronophthisis at age eight and treated with dialysis for about a year before receiving a transplant from her father — co‑founded the Dalhousie Make‑A‑Wish Society with Angel Womack. The student group works with Make‑A‑Wish Canada to run fundraisers, host guest speakers, and match volunteers to events such as "Trees of Joy." Zeen received a shopping‑spree wish at 17 (including a professional flute and a lesson with Casey Granofsky of Symphony Nova Scotia). The society aims to strengthen peer connections among wish recipients and hopes one day to fully sponsor a child’s wish. Instagram: @dalhousiemakeawish.
