UQAM co‑founds Biennale Extra! — an international biennial of literary arts in Quebec (Autumn 2027)
Biennale Extra!, the inaugural international biennial for contemporary literary arts, will take place in Quebec in autumn 2027. UQAM is a founding partner with the Centre Pompidou and Productions Rhizome; the program centers on three themes — Territorialities, Plasticities and Care — and already gathers local and international partners.
Announced by UQAM with the Centre Pompidou and Productions Rhizome, Biennale Extra! will present in autumn 2027 hybrid literary works — performed, visual, sonic and digital — that expand the notion of literature beyond the book. UQAM will develop an associated academic and research strand in research‑creation and is coordinating contributions from museums, stages and cultural centres (e.g., Fondation Grantham, Banff Centre, Université Laval, Place des Arts, Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, Cinémathèque). This term, UQAM’s School of Design supervises a student project to create the Biennale’s visual identity.
