Algonquin College names 2026 Alumni of Distinction; Department of National Defence is Employer of the Year
Algonquin College announced its 2026 Alumni of Distinction, celebrating graduates for professional and community impact. The Department of National Defence was named Employer of the Year. Awards will be presented at a ceremony on 5 November 2026 in Ottawa.
Algonquin College released its 2026 Alumni of Distinction roster, highlighting alumni achievements across sectors. Recipients include Kim Hiscott (Early Childhood Education, Class of 1984) as Alumna of the Year; Hannah Hempinstall (Motive Power Fundamentals – Automotive Service Apprentice, Class of 2021) — Recent Graduate Award; Owen Welsh (Sport Business Management, Class of 2009) — Business Award; Kurtis Funai (Internet Application Programmer, Class of 2011) — Science, Technology and Engineering; Shawn Turcotte (Architectural Technician, Class of 1993; Renovation and Restoration, Class of 1994) — Skilled Trades. The Department of National Defence receives the Employer of the Year award. The gala is set for 5 November 2026.
