Dr. Nada Jabado wins the 2026 Wilder‑Penfield Prize for breakthroughs in pediatric brain cancer research
Nada Jabado (McGill), Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Oncology and Officer of the Order of Canada, was awarded the 2026 Wilder‑Penfield Prize for discoveries that reshaped knowledge of childhood brain tumours, including the 2012 histone H3 mutation finding.
McGill reports that Nada Jabado is the 2026 Wilder‑Penfield Prize recipient (Prix du Québec) for her contributions to pediatric oncology. Her work showed pediatric gliomas are biologically distinct from adult tumours and led to the 2012 discovery of mutations in histone H3 genes—a milestone that opened new research and therapeutic directions. Jabado holds a Canada Research Chair and established the ICHANGE consortium, which brings together researchers from over 20 countries to improve diagnosis, classification and treatment approaches for childhood brain tumours.
