Precautionary Measures for SARS in Canada

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – While the World Health Organization has returned Toronto to its list of SARS-affected areas, it is not recommending any travel restrictions to the city: Toronto is a safe destination. And of course, the rest of Canada continues to be a safe destination.

加拿大英属哥伦比亚省温哥华市－虽然世卫组织重新又把多伦多列入被SARS感染的地区的名单中，这并不意味着对这个城市的旅游事业有任何的限制，多伦多仍然是个安全的目的地。当然，加拿大的其他地区同样仍然安全。

In Toronto, there has been a new cluster of probable and suspected SARS cases confined to hospital settings. These are the first new cases since April 19. Extensive precautionary measures are being taken to manage this outbreak, including treating all cases in the clusters as SARS until proven otherwise. Measures are also being implemented that have proved highly effective in quickly containing outbreaks. The outbreak is hospital-based, and there is no community spread.

在多伦多，由于医院内部感染，又出现了一些新的疑似病例。这是自4月19日以来，第一组新病例。人们正采取广泛的预警措施处理这次SARS病毒的小型爆发，其中包括把这些疑似都当作SARS来处理直至证明为非SARS。另外，在迅速控制爆发方面，多伦多也采取了很多行之有效的措施。这次的爆发被控制在医院之内，并未向其他社区传播。

Health Canada, the country’s national health authority, has worked tirelessly with in-country and international partners to contain SARS and to participate in the international community’s scientific investigation into the disease.

SARS continues to have little to no impact on most people’s daily lives in Canada.
Canadian schools continue to welcome thousands of international students and visitors.

“Canada is a preferred destination for students from around the world, and it remains a safe place to travel and study. Canada is open to them and welcomes them,” says CECN President Rodney Briggs.

Travellers entering Canada or returning to Canada from SARS-affected countries are not required to enter into quarantine. To ensure that Canada will remain SARS-free, there are screening procedures in place in Canada’s airports; some travellers may receive information cards about SARS, and may be asked to provide contact information.

The overwhelming majority of Canadian schools continue to welcome applications and students from SARS-affected countries. Students from these countries going to Canada are encouraged to be in touch with their destination schools for information about any measures they may be taking to protect all their students. In some cases, these students may be encouraged to come to Canada a little early so that if a few days of quarantine were necessary, their studies would not be interrupted.

绝大多数加拿大学校继续欢迎来自SARS感染地区的申请和学生。这些学生应该首先与目的学校联系，看他们是否采取措施来保护他们的学生。在某些情况下，这些学生需要提前来到加拿大，因此如果他们必须进行段时间的隔离，将不会耽误他们的学习。
