General English Courses: Designed for those students who wish to improve their communication skills in English, these courses include the study of spoken English, listening to native speakers of English and reading English. The emphasis is on skills for everyday communications, with elective courses that provide opportunities for students to learn idioms and slang, business English or English through culture and media. There is also an activities program available to General English students. This program is offered in four week modules, although students may continue to study and progress in the program for as long as they wish. University Preparation (UP): This program focuses on the skills needed for academic success in a university program. Students study essay and report writing, lecture note taking and making presentations, and reading skills for research and study. They are encouraged to improve their test taking skills through courses in TOEFL or IELTS. This program is offered as a three or six month program, and more advanced UP students can take some BSc. or MBA level courses along with their UP program. There are three courses in the advanced UP program that can be transferred for elective credit to the UIU BSc. degree. Diploma in Accounting: The content of the courses offered with this program includes: Accounting Theory and Principles, Marketing and Management Principles, Micro and Macroeconomics, Management Information Systems, Business Law, Cost Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Auditing. All courses are transferable to Upper Iowa University. Certificate in Accounting: This program consists of 30 credit hours and is usually completed in two semesters. The subjects covered include: Accounting, Marketing, Management, Accounting, and Finance.
