GRADES 7-9
The Junior School offers a foundation programme to prepare students for the rigours of high school. Each student takes a broadly-based programme ensuring a firm basis in the Arts/Sciences and Performing Arts. Honours courses include all foundational topics investigated at grade level but in greater depth and at an advanced pace. In addition, enrichment topics accelerate students to the next grade level of study within each subject discipline. Grade 9 students must choose between art and music.
JUNIOR SCHOOL HOUSE ACTIVITIES:
The King’s-Edgehill Junior School resurrected inter-house competitions during the 1999-2000 school year. Tradition provided a foundation for the programme, as for many years such activities existed at Edgehill and King’s College School. According to Mrs. Landymore, our Alumni Director, it is often asked whether we have maintained the competition. As of September, she has been able to answer with a definitive - yes. House-Competitions provide academic, athletic and social events that engender physical and mental activity, and foster friendships and school spirit amongst the student body.
JUNIOR SPORTS:
The focus of the junior sports programme is to expose students to a wide variety of sports as the year progresses, so that they can develop skills in several activities. The school’s goal is that all students find at least one activity per term which they will pursue diligently, making physical fitness a priority for a lifetime.

Careers, professions and scholarly pursuits are becoming increasingly crowded and competitive. However, there is always room at the top. A better education can be the edge that divides the mediocre from the excellent. King\'s-Edgehill attempts to provide the competitive edge for all its students. Since the demise of the Provincial examinations and the failure of other standardized tests and attempts to coordinate curriculum on at least a provincial level, schools, universities, teachers, parents and employers have sought a standard whereby they may judge academic achievement. In order to serve the exceptional, academically motivated student, King\'s-Edgehill School has entered the select group of world schools offering an International Baccalaureate programme.

Theatre:
Theatre is the process and the product of human expression. Theatre takes many forms at KES. There is, of course, a major drama production each year but other forms include puppet shows, dramatic recitals in class, musical productions, skit nights and improvisational workshops. In addition interested students are encouraged to join in the productions of the world renowned Mermaid Theatre which is located in Windsor.
Music:
All Junior School students participate in music class, which features instruction on an instrument and the opportunity to participate in one of the performance bands for beginners in this programme. Junior School students who have already studied an instrument may participate in the Senior School band activities.
Art:
The art programme at King\'s-Edgehill encompasses a number of areas including: drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, clay work, graphic design and art history. The programme is enriched by numerous trips to art galleries, by an annual fine arts’ trip to New York, and through a guest artist series in which professional artists and artisans are invited to the School by the art teacher to share their talents with our students.

As part of the Junior School curriculum at King’s-Edgehill School, the development of leadership skills, co-operative learning and student responsibility is emphasized. Such skills will serve our students well as they prepare to enter the next phase of their educational lives at the Senior School level. An outdoor adventure is an invaluable experience in furthering such development. In this regard, our Grade 9 class attends the YMCA Outdoor Education Experience Program at Big Cove Camp each spring.
Big Cove YMCA Camp is owned and operated by the YMCA of greater Halifax/Dartmouth. It is located on Merigomish Harbour in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. With over 100 acres of forest, field, salt-marsh, and ocean shoreline within its bounds, Big Cove is an ideal location for an environmental education experience.
The students take part in canoeing, archery, kayaking, low and high ropes courses and an overnight canoe trip on Merigomish Harbour, all under the supervision of trained and experienced camp counselors and King’s-Edgehill staff. If there are any question regarding the programme please contact Mr. Kevin Lakes - klakes@kes.ns.ca.
