Saint Mary’s University is home to one of Canada’s leading business schools, has a Science faculty widely known for its cutting-edge research, a comprehensive and innovative Arts Faculty, and a new Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. Arts: The Faculty of Arts at Saint Mary’s University is comprehensive in scope and innovative in perspective. As the largest Faculty of Arts in Atlantic Canada, it combines fields of study from both the Humanities and the Social Sciences. Students prepare for the future while establishing sound critical, literary and analytical skills necessary for success in today's job market. The majors offered in Arts are Anthropology, History, Classics, Religious Studies, Linguistics, Irish Studies, International Development Studies, Atlantic Canada Studies, Asian Studies, Geography, Philosophy, Sociology and Criminology. Science: The Faculty of Science offers a range of undergraduate programs. They include astrophysics, biology, chemistry, computing science, geology, math, physics and psychology. There are co-operative education options as well as opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research. Students enrolled in the co-op program undertake an honors research project and job placement. The work terms place students’ research in an applied context and provide valuable experience that can lead to employment after graduation. Saint Mary’s science students graduate with a range of skills that include a strong science based training and an ability to think critically and express themselves clearly. Commerce: Students of the Bachelor of Commerce program at Saint Mary's University can expect a student-focused setting dedicated to providing students with a world-class opportunity. In today's interdependent global community, Saint Mary's is proud to be the largest Business School in Atlantic Canada. The Sobey undergraduate and MBA programs are recognized nationally and internationally with the MBA program being recently rated "best in Atlantic Canada" by employers. At the Sobey School, students can select from professors with PhD's from around the world. With small class sizes, courses with real world relevance, co-op programs, study abroad opportunities and a state of the art learning environment, Commerce graduates enter the workplace as skilled leaders capable of competing in the global arena. ESL: Saint Mary’s is a highly internationalized campus. At our TESL Centre, we offer a variety of Intensive English Programs specially designed to meet student needs. The programs include English for Academic Purposes (EAP), a University Bridging Program (UBP), English for Personal and Professional Communication (EPPC), Advanced Business English (ABE) and a One-month ESL Immersion program (IMM). The Intensive English Program is offered year round in four, eight or sixteen week sessions. All programs include an orientation to the campus and a full schedule of social and cultural activities. For students enrolled in an intensive program, homestay and residence accommodation can be arranged. Education: Saint Mary's University and the University of Maine at Presque Isle have established a program which allows students to qualify for teacher certification. This program provides several benefits such as international experience, teacher certification in both Maine and Nova Scotia, and a choice of practice teaching in Nova Scotia or Maine.
