Malaspina University-College, established in 1969, is a fully-accredited, government-funded institution, offering Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degrees, undergraduate (bachelor) degrees, university transfer programs, two-year diplomas, and one-year certificates in academic, English as a Second Language (ESL), career, technical and trades programs. Malaspina enrolls 10,000 students at its main campus in Nanaimo, British Columbia where Malaspina delivers a six-level English as a Second Language certificate program. All students are in small classes taught by experienced and highly qualified instructors. The tuition and living expenses are very affordable. The campus has a well-equipped library, computer and science laboratories, a gymnasium, and art gallery. Support services for International students include advising, orientation, accommodation and arranged social activities. Popular academic programs for international students include: MBA, undergraduate business, tourism management, computer science, humanities and engineering university transfer. Malaspina is also an experienced provider of customized programs for professionals and student groups from outside Canada. Nanaimo, a city of 85,000 people, is located on the scenic east coast of Vancouver Island close to major metropolitan centres like Vancouver and Victoria. The area’s mild climate allows for a variety of summer and winter recreational activities. Nanaimo is a supportive and friend community and local families eagerly participate in the Homestay Program. Master in Business Administration (MBA)
Malaspina University-College\'s Master in Business Administration (MBA) and Master in Business Administration (International) offered in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire, England – prepares students for the business world of tomorrow. Small classes, close interaction with faculty, and flexible learning modules are among the strengths of our MBA programs that give students the skills they need to succeed in today\'s competitive world of business.
The MBA program welcomes students who hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline except business. The MBA (International) program is designed for students who hold an undergraduate degree with a major in Business. Both the MBA and MBA (International) are 12-month programs with five courses offered in each of two 12-week semesters. In the third and final semester there are no formal classes, and students are expected to complete their thesis under the guidance of a thesis supervisor.
The MBA and the MBA (International) programs are designed for students who are progressing from undergraduate to graduate studies. While preferred, previous work experience is not required.
There is no GMAT requirement for the MBA or MBA (International).
English as a Second Language (ESL) Certificate Program
The English Language Certificate Program at Malaspina University-College offers 6 levels.
· Each level is 14 weeks long, 20 hours per week.
· Small classes are taught by highly qualified and friendly teachers, giving individual attention.
· All international students take an assessment test to determine the right starting level.
· There is a Learning Centre where students can get extra help.
There are three semesters:
· September to December (application deadline: July 15)
· January to April (application deadline: November 15)
· May to August (application deadline: March 15)
· Pre-Intermediate Certificate
This is the first level of English at Malaspina, but international students must already have a basic knowledge of English. Students develop fundamental reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, and they start learning about Canadian life and culture.
· Intermediate One Certificate
This second level teaches intermediate reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Students use the language and computer labs each week. They learn about everyday Canadian life by going on field trips into the local community and practicing their language skills.
· Intermediate Two Certificate
At this third level, students refine their reading and writing skills, and they become more confident at speaking the language. Students improve their listening and pronunciation skills in the language labs.
· Advanced One Certificate
This level covers advanced reading, writing, grammar, listening, conversation, and study skills. Students make extensive use of computers and the language lab.
· Advanced Two Certificate
In this level students learn academic writing skills, as well as listening and speaking skills necessary for college and university.
· University Preparation Certificate
This level prepares students for first year university. Students learn to write formal, academic essays such as the literary essay, the argumentative essay, and the research essay. They also develop advanced skills in oral presentations, note-taking, and library research.
University Degrees (Bachelor)

Students who complete their degree program at Malaspina have many advantages. Tuition fees are affordable, and class sizes are, on average, one quarter the size of traditional university classes. As a result, instructors are much more accessible.
All classes are taught by fully qualified instructors who are dedicated to teaching and able to pay more individual attention to students. There are about 300 international students enrolled in Malaspina\'s undergraduate programs so international students have plenty of opportunity to interact with Canadian students while providing their own perspectives.
University Transfer
University Transfer programs allow students to study at Malaspina for the first 2 years of a 4 year university degree program. After the first or second years, students are eligible to transfer to the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, University of Northern British Columbia and many other universities across Canada.
University Transfer programs available at Malaspina are in a broad range of subjects in the faculties of Arts and Science, Commerce, Education, Fine Arts, Music and Engineering.
Diplomas and Certificates
Malaspina\'s two year diploma and one year certificate programs provide practical, hands-on training for learners to enter into the job market.
Programs include: Hospitality Management, Information Technology and Applied Systems, Graphic and Visual Arts, Interior Design, Early Childhood Education and Care, Culinary Arts, Business Management, Commercial Accounting, Horticultural Technician, Forestry Technician, Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), and many others.
