Opened in 1908, the University of Alberta has grown to be one of Canadas largest research-intensive universities, with external research funding in 1999/2000 of more than $213 million.
The University is situated in Edmonton, the vibrant, cosmopolitan capital of the province of Alberta. The Edmonton area has a population that exceeds 900,000.
The University of Alberta serves more than 30,000 students in 200 undergraduate programs and 170 graduate programs. Students enjoy an exceptional quality of life on a friendly campus in the midst of a city that values research and technology as well as its beautiful river-valley parkland.
The pioneering spirit that characterized the University of Alberta at its inception continues today. It inspires faculty and students to advance knowledge through research, to seek innovation in teaching and learning and to find new ways to serve the people of Alberta and the world. Our university is especially proud to be hosting international visitors at the University of Alberta athletes village for the 2001 World Championships in Athletics.
