Established in 1996, Malaspina International High School is a private high school located on the campus of Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. MIHS offers a high quality academic program of university preparation courses leading to a British Columbia high school graduation diploma. Graduates of MIHS are guaranteed admission to Malaspina University-College or are assisted in preparing for admission to the post-secondary institution of their choice. MIHS offers students many advantages. These include: *small classes (limited to 15 students) *10 progressive levels of ESL and English courses *mature, academic environment of a university campus *British Columbia certified teachers *small school community environment with all the facilities provided by a modern university. *broad range of extra-curricular activities.

High School Program
Malaspina International High School is certified by the Government of British Columbia to offer a Grade 10, 11 and 12 high school program that will lead to a British Columbia High School Graduation Diploma. The High School is located on the campus of Malaspina University-College, an internationally respected public post-secondary institution that has hosted international students from over 50 countries in the last 20 years. The High School prepares students from around the world for entry into Malaspina University-College and other North American universities. Graduates of Malaspina International High School are guaranteed admission to Malaspina University-College programs on satisfactory completion of course requirements. Students receive assistance in planning post-secondary admissions to university. Malaspina International High School offers 5 terms a year, and students can start the academic program on any one of five entry dates. Class size is limited to 15 students. A Summer Program is offered in July and August for students seeking a short-term program of study in Canada. Students\' proficiency in English will be assessed before the start of classes, and students whose English is not satisfactory will be required to take additional English courses. All teachers have university degrees and British Columbia teaching certificates. They stress academic excellence to give students a firm foundation for achieving their future educational and career goals. The High School seeks to instill in students personal qualities of leadership, diligence and self-reliance and helps them to develop inter-cultural communication skills and attitudes to become world citizens and to develop friendships in a multicultural setting.
Homestay
All students live with English speaking Canadian host families who provide a caring, pleasant and relaxed home environment. Students have a quiet room and three meals a day, including a bag lunch. Homestay allows students to practice and enhance their English language skills, to experience daily living in Canada, and to build relationships and memories that will last a lifetime. Malaspina has a Homestay Department that assists students with the adjustment of living and working in Canada.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Entrance into Malaspina International High School is not dependent on a TOEFL score. When students arrive to study, their English language ability is assessed and they are placed in one of our 10 levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) program. The program works very closely with students who need English language support to ensure their academic success.
Advanced Placement and S.A.T.
Preparation for Advanced Placement Tests and S.A.T. Assessmants are provided to students wanting to participate in these examinations.
Summer Study Program
Students from 14 - 17 years old come to Canada during July and August and experience an opportunity of a lifetime! Study at Malaspina International High School, located on the campus of Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo, on beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Nanaimo offers a friendly and supportive community and enjoys warm weather during the summer months of July and August. Your experience in Canada can be as short as two weeks, or as long as eight weeks. Improve your English proficiency, study another subject and/or enjoy a variety of recreational activities. Malaspina\'s Summer Programs offer students an exciting opportunity to study the English language while participating in field trips and typical Canadian recreational activities. Activities such as swimming, basketball, soccer, golf, and canoeing are available for your enjoyment. Field trips to Victoria and Vancouver, popular tourist destinations, are also available. Instead of participating in sporting/recreational activities, students can choose to participate in the regular high school program and choose to study academic subjects with other high school students. During your summer term, you will live with a Canadian family in a homestay arrangement. The homestay experience is a vital part of your educational experience in Canada. It is the best way for you to improve your English and become involved in the culture of Canada.
