Choose a study pathway

Start with the qualification and skills you want to gain. Compare the subject, teaching language, delivery format and location before choosing an institution.

University, college, vocational, secondary and language programs serve different goals. A familiar school name does not establish whether a particular campus or program fits your project.

  1. Write down your goal
  2. Compare at least three programs
  3. Check the institution’s own admission pages

Graphic and Interior Design

In today’s world, we’re constantly exposed to visuals from television, billboards, advertisements and more. Graphic designers that can create effective visuals which stand out are in great demand. If you have a talent for the visual arts, consider a career in graphic design. There are many excellent programs in Canada that can prepare you for work in this exciting field.

You can pursue diploma, degree or certificate programs in design at numerous post-secondary institutions across Canada. Programs generally focus on both technical and creative skills. While you will study the basic principles of drawing and design, you’ll also learn to master software programs. By the end of the program, you’ll usually have a portfolio of work to showcase your skills.

Graphic design graduates work in print, multimedia and on the Internet. They create logos, product labels, signage and book covers. They also work on exhibits and displays, print ads, and websites.

If you’re interested in furthering your creative and technical skills in this field, you may someday find yourself working as a production artist or designer for an audiovisual multimedia house, a design studio, the graphic design department of a major company, an ad agency, or even a publishing house.
