Welcome to Toronto International Student Programs! The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is proud to be one of the most diverse and multicultural school systems in the world. The benefits of an education in our schools go far beyond purely academic pursuits. During their school years in Toronto, international students will develop a deeper understanding of the diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic elements of our modern society. Travelling to a new country and getting a first rate education can be a very rewarding experience. International students gain new perspectives, new friends and a new understanding of life in today’s fast changing society. This stimulating experience awaits you in our schools. Our teachers and counsellors are particularly sensitive to the needs of international students. We know from experience that overseas students often need help adjusting to life in a new country. Our staff speak a variety of languages and they are always willing to offer friendly guidance on academic and personal issues. We invite you to explore our web pages. Toronto is a beautiful, clean, safe city in which to learn, work and play. TDSB schools are your opportunity to experience all this city and our education system has to offer. Join us and make our schools your home away from home. Sincerely, Dr. Smita Sengupta Manager, International Student Services and Admissions Office Toronto District School Board

Elementary Schools
Elementary schools provide Kindergarten programs (for children aged 4 and 5) and programs for Grades 1 through 8. Elementary school placement for our Toronto International Student Programs is limited to school availability. The Toronto District School Board will make every attempt to find a school close to where the student will be living in Toronto.
Secondary Schools
Secondary schools offer programs from Grade 9 through to Grade 12. To receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students need to complete at least thirty (30) credits in secondary school (one credit is normally one course). Students planning to attend university can include the required six university/college preparation courses in their senior level of studies in order to meet university entrance requirements. More information on graduation requirements can be found on the Ontario Ministry of Education’s web site under High School Diploma Requirements. Many secondary schools in the Toronto District School Board now accept international students. Students may indicate their preferences for three schools on the application form. The Toronto District School Board will try to accommodate the student’s preference for placement, provided that the requested school has space and an appropriate program. The Toronto District School Board reserves the right to make the final decision regarding the student’s placement. Should a student decide not to indicate any school preferences, the Toronto District School Board will place the student in the most appropriate school. Secondary School Programs Many subjects are available in TDSB secondary schools including: Accounting, Family Studies, Biology, Geography, Business, History, Chemistry, International Languages, Classical Studies, Law, Computer and Technology Studies, Marketing, Drama, Mathematics, Economics, Music, Electronics, Health and Physical Education, English, Physics, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Visual Arts. Universities/colleges will look for evidence of successful studies in the major field in which the student applies. All English-language universities in Canada require high levels of proficiency in English. In choosing a program, students should have in mind their educational plan.
