Applied Degree - Motion Picture Arts
An applied degree focuses on advanced study in career or technical fields. These are four year degrees with six semesters of formal instruction and two semesters of formally credited work experience.
Red Deer College\'s Applied Degree in Motion Picture Arts prepares students for the rapidly growing motion picture, television, and multimedia industries. The Degree builds on a theatre studies diploma or two years of theatre studies. After two years of theatre studies, students complete a third year of intensive theory and hands-on instruction in motion picture arts. Students who complete the third year receive an Advanced Certificate in Production or Acting. Selected students may go on to complete a fourth year and receive an Applied Degree. The fourth year involves:
* a credited mentored work experience (the equivalent of two four-month terms) or
* the opportunity to gain credited work experience by completing a substantial motion picture project.
The program has two streams: Production and Acting. Students take core film production and performance courses including: hands-on training in traditional film and leading edge digital production techniques, cinematography, sound, editing, and post-production; writing, directing, and producing; on-camera acting, scene study, and character development; and audition, portfolio, and career preparation.
Note: Some programs and courses may have material and special fees in addition to tuition.
