Certificate in Advanced English and EFL Pedagogy (TEFL)
This unique TESL/TEFL program for international English teachers will enhance your language teaching expertise while you refine your English through living and studying in an immersion environment. Its two 4-month Modules each include five English language courses (with international students) and language teaching courses (with Canadian English speakers. There are also socio-cultural activities, academic, sports and library services, and access to the University of Ottawa\'s outstanding resources for language learning and teaching.
The post-diploma, 30-credit University of Ottawa Certificate in Advanced English and EFL Pedagogy is both a professional TEFL qualification and excellent preparation for graduate study.
English courses are selected to match your needs. Language teaching courses combine theory, practice and the opportunity for volunteer experience in local ESL programs.

Advanced English Programs
The University of Ottawa offers two complementary Advanced English Programs - English for Academic and Professional Purposes and the four-week English for Success in the Workplace, designed to help you develop business skills.
The English for Academic and Professional Purposes course will help you function effectively in an academic or professional environment. The writing component focuses on the preparation of academic and professional texts such as essays, case studies, reports, memos, and letters. A review of reading strategies will help develop research and study skills and specialized vocabulary. The oral skills component will help improve your pronunciation, listening and note-taking skills, and oral presentation skills. The program encourages teamwork, group discussions and debates, and projects simulating actual academic and business-related tasks.

Intensive Language Programs

Intensive English is your best path to fluency and accuracy. Learners at all levels can benefit from our intensive programs. Their primary objective is to help you achieve a level of proficiency which will allow you to function in English in a university context or in a workplace environment. These courses also provide you with the opportunity to experience the culture of your target language, as it is expressed in a North American context. Since over 50 languages and cultures are represented by our students, our programs also offer a unique opportunity to participate in a culturally diverse international experience.

We offer intensive courses in French in spring and summer. Classroom activities integrate listening, reading, speaking and writing skills.
