Lakehead University, located at the head of the Great Lakes in Thunder Bay, Ontario is a modern, comprehensive university. With a campus of the Northern Ontario Medical School, increasing research activity and graduate programming, and a continued dedication to quality undergraduate teaching, Lakehead is poised to play an increasingly important role in the Ontario post-secondary educational sector. We are dedicated to achieving excellence in teaching, research, scholarship and service. With a campus backyard that includes the Canadian Shield and Lake Superior, programs such as Biology, Forestry, Geography and Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism take advantage of a natural laboratory in and around the University. Small class sizes allow students to learn in a comfortable and informal atmosphere. In addition to a comprehensive array of programs in Arts and Science, Lakehead welcomes students from around the world in Business Administration, Engineering, Education, Nursing and Kinesiology. The campus is situated on 150 hectares of rock and pine with most of the University’s academic and administrative buildings grouped around Lake Tamblyn. Residence buildings hug the banks of the McIntyre River. The campus is small, modern and personal with internet cafes, laboratories, extensive research facilities, lecture rooms, a library housing 700,000 volumes and a computer system with interactive terminals to support the academic activities of the University. Many of the buildings are connected by underground tunnels for comfortable access during inclement weather. Our Residence Complex is comfortable, clean and safe and allows students to study in an ideal environment. Students take advantage of the paved trails leading into, out of and around the campus by walking, jogging, rollerblading, bicycling or, in the winter, cross-country skiing! Though several city attractions lie within walking distance, Thunder Bay Transit services the University and all parts of the city on a regular basis. Whether on campus or off, students enjoy the best of both at Lakehead University.

Faculty of Business Administration
The Faculty of Business Administration offers two undergraduate degree programs: (a) The Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, a four year program after Ontario OAC. (b) The Bachelor of Administration degree, a one year program after completion of the first two years of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce program. Each program has been designed to meet the educational needs of a wide variety of people. The first two years of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce program reflect an underlying belief that effective management and administrative practices are essential in an increasingly complex and changing society. The central objective of both programs is to prepare participants to more effectively deal with this complexity and change. Hence, the Faculty places substantial emphasis on recent developments and techniques and focuses on the future. Using a varied mix of teaching techniques including the case study method, computer games and simulations, reading seminars, group project work, role-playing, and traditional text and lecture methods, participants are exposed to learning situations which increase both their analytical skills and their flexibility in decision-making.
Faculty of Education
Teacher Education at Lakehead University is built upon the assumption that the primary objective of teaching is to foster and direct learning by students. Programs in the Faculty of Education are designed to assist prospective teachers to gain the skills, knowledge and attitudes which support effective teaching. Four elements characterize the Faculty’s programs: i)A foundation in liberal studies considered likely to foster the intellectual curiosity, creativity and broad knowledge necessary for effective teaching. ii)The study of human learning and development, within their social and cultural context, in relation to instructional and management techniques within educational settings. iii)The study of curriculum and methods of instruction. iv)The opportunity to observe effective teaching and to apply and develop instructional approaches in classroom settings through supervised practice teaching. The following Undergraduate programs are offered: Bachelor of Education Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education Honours Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education Honours Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Education Bachelor of Arts (General Program)/Bachelor of Education (Native Education)
Facuty of Engineering
Lakehead University\'s Faculty of Engineering has designed undergraduate engineering programs that are unique in Canada. The curriculum combines diploma programs in Engineering Technology with Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree programs. The first stage of the program consists of two years of study for the regular university applicant and leads to a diploma in the student\'s choice of specialization in Engineering Technology. (Note: high school graduates with the Ontario grade 12 or equivalent require three years of study, including a common first year.) The Faculty offers specialization in chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical and software engineering. After graduating with a diploma in Engineering Technology, students may seek employment as an engineering technologist or enter the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree program. Students are required to apply for entry to the second stage which leads to the BEng degree in two years. The two stages provide a BEng in four years of study. Students study mathematics, sciences, engineering sciences and engineering design in both stages. In the degree program, students can choose from a range of engineering electives and complementary studies electives. The study and practice of engineering design is emphasized throughout, including a major senior year project course. The two-year BEng programs attract graduate engineering technologists, who enrich the programs with their industrial experience. The following Undergraduate programs are offered: Stage One: Diploma in Engineering Technology Stage Two: Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op education/internship option available)
Facuty of Forestry and the Forest Environment
Modern forestry is a dynamic pure and applied science that is essential to the ecological and economic health of Canada and the world. As active members of an environmentally concerned public, we have designed programs which reflect the great variety of values - such as preservational, conservational, cultural, recreational and financial - found in the forest resource. In our programs, you will learn how to be a problem solver, decision maker and communicator. You will study the biological and social aspects of wise forest management, as well as concentrate on advanced areas of forestry practice such as resource conservation, forest biology, wood science, tree health, forest protection, harvesting, mensuration, silviculture, social forestry, community forestry, and the use of the latest computer technology and remote sensing. Forestry at Lakehead comes naturally. Located at the transition between the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence and Boreal forest regions, in a city which boasts a range of industry, government and research facilities, our Faculty is ideally situated for both field and classroom instruction. We are proud of our level of interaction with individuals and organizations outside the “academic” realm and feel that this cooperative spirit brings additional value of the program and the new opportunities to our students. The following Undergraduate programs are offered: Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry (Co-op Education Option) Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Forest Conservation) Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Forest Conservation)
