Choose a study pathway

Start with the qualification and skills you want to gain. Compare the subject, teaching language, delivery format and location before choosing an institution.

University, college, vocational, secondary and language programs serve different goals. A familiar school name does not establish whether a particular campus or program fits your project.

  1. Write down your goal
  2. Compare at least three programs
  3. Check the institution’s own admission pages

Computer Animation and Digital Design

Around the globe, the entertainment and media industries are seeking individuals with creative minds and the professional skills to match. If you have a flair for illustration, design or the visual arts, a career in computer animation or digital design might be right for you.

The success of movies like "Monsters Inc." and "Finding Nemo", coupled with the increased use of 3D imaging in regular feature films, has sparked an animation renaissance. Computer animation graduates are in demand, and Canadian schools are helping to fill this void. Students can pursue diplomas, degrees and post-graduate diplomas in computer animation in Canada. Programs focus on the principles of animation as well as the latest software for 3-D computer-based modeling and animation.

After studying computer animation in Canada you may find yourself working as a CG animator, modeler, designer, animation director or principal of a computer animation studio.

As a student in one of Canada’s digital design programs, you’ll go beyond graphic design as you learn to use Flash, video, animation, sound, print and other tools and medium to complete professional projects. You’ll build an understanding of the fundamentals of lettering and typography, colour, composition and motion. Plus, over the course of your studies you’ll hone your skills in web design, 3D graphics, Flash design, project management and much more.

Canadian schools provide high-end workstations and top-rate studio facilities for student training. As well, courses are taught by industry professionals.

An education in computer animation or digital design will open the doors to the future you’ve been dreaming of. When you graduate, you’ll have a portfolio to showcase your talent to prospective employers! Perhaps you see yourself creating the latest video games, landing a job at a top ad agency or working as a web designer — these are just a handful of the possibilities. So take a moment to explore the educational opportunities in Canada.
