CultureWorks ESL is a private English as a Second Language school partnered with King’s College and Brescia University College, two affiliate university-colleges of the University of Western Ontario. Through this partnership, CultureWorks offers international students a truly unique opportunity. You can study English on the campus of a highly respected Canadian university and, if you wish, enter the university automatically upon completion of the ESL program without having to write any test of English proficiency. CultureWorks is dedicated to providing the highest quality of English courses, with an emphasis on university preparation and career advancement. We are committed to advancing English as a Second Language training through our membership with the CEC Network, the CBIE, and TESL Canada. ESL Scholarship Program: Each session, one CultureWorks student from each campus is awarded a scholarship in the amount of $300.00. The award is given to the student who has obtained the highest grade average. Conversation Circle: We know that ESL students can never have enough speaking and listening practice. That’s why CultureWorks offers students an opportunity to converse in an informal setting with other students from different cultural backgrounds, every week. Conditional University Offers: If a student would like to attend university after ESL training, CultureWorks will provide a Letter of Acceptance from the CultureWorks school as well as a Conditional Letter of Acceptance from the university. The Conditional Letter of Acceptance states that the student "must register for English as a Second Language (ESL) Training with CultureWorks, and successfully complete the High-Advanced level of the program prior to the commencement of academic studies". Making a Difference: A full 5% of our net profits, along with a small portion of monthly student tuition, is deposited into a special fund from which we provide bursaries and scholarships to undergraduate students and support various charitable causes in the London area. Location: We are located in London, Ontario, affectionately known as "The Forest City", and just a short drive to either Detroit, Michigan or Toronto, Ontario. Full details on accommodations, tuition fees, and a list of recent announcements can be found on our website at www.culture-works.com.原學校網站 · 歷史資料

English for Academic Purposes:
The curriculum at CultureWorks prepares students for university, as well as career advancement. We also welcome students who wish only to improve their English for a short-term stay (three months), and return home. Even if you do not wish to study at a Canadian university, you can be assured that the quality of our program can help you meet your future needs.
Course work is culturally significant, and includes the renowned Canadian Studies program. Divided into distinct units, the course covers some of the most critical themes for students requiring a background about Canadian life. The units are chosen by the instructional team, with feedback provided by the university faculty. These units may include: Multiculturalism, Academic Culture, Government/Politics, Nature and the Environment, History, Canadian Identity, Geography/Demographics, Industry/Economy, and Life Skills.
Each unit spans three weeks, and involves two days of independent study or student group work, as well as a culminating instructor-led excursion. This structure uniquely prepares students for higher academic or professional situations.
The ESL program is divided into four levels. Each level requires twelve weeks to complete and corresponds to the Canadian Language Benchmarks as follows:
Intermediate Level Benchmarks 5-6
High-Intermediate Level Benchmarks 7-8
Advanced Level Benchmarks 9-10
High-Advanced Level Benchmarks 11-12+
Progression to the next level is based on achieving an academic score of over 80%, and meeting 80% of the non-academic requirements for each level.
At this time we do not offer a beginner course.
Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. and finish at 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. Periods last fifty minutes, as per the university schedule.
Services:
As members of the university community, students at CultureWorks have access to all facilities and services at the University of Western Ontario, including the free shuttle service, access to the bookstores, libraries, tanning salon, travel agency, and computer stores.
Students are also able to obtain a campus recreation membership for approximately $8.00 per month. With this pass, students may utilize the swimming pool, aerobics classes, weight-lifting room, cardio room, tennis and racquetball courts. Intramural sports teams with Canadian students can also be joined.
Each student has access to the on-campus computer lab, with complimentary email and internet services Monday to Friday.
ESL Orientation:
To help welcome you to your new surroundings, all CultureWorks students take part in an ESL orientation day held the first day of a new session. Students begin the day with a speaking, listening, and writing test. Each student then receives an orientation booklet, containing information on: the UWO campus, CultureWorks policies, London transit, banking, things to do in London, city of London emergency numbers, travel contacts, community multicultural resources, multi-lingual doctors in London, walk-in clinics, sports facilities, visa requirement checklists, and more!
Following the orientation session, students are given the appropriate class schedules and textbooks. The group is then bused downtown by an ESL co-ordinator who will assist in making appointments to open accounts at the bank, purchase bus passes, and give general information on how to get home from downtown.
Community:
Some of our students participate in after school volunteer programs to practice their English. Both Brescia and King’s have resources available for students who are interested in volunteering in the London community.
Free Trial Day
CultureWorks offers all students currently in Canada a free trial day on campus prior to any commitment. Interested students should contact the Registrar at cultureworks@uwo.ca at least twenty-four hours in advance to arrange the day.
Fees and intake dates can be found on our website at www.culture-works.com.

Online Courses
CultureWorks ESL will begin offering an online ESL program in September, 2003. Class size will be limited to 80 for the first year.
If you would like to study English but are unable to do so on-campus, our online study program may be for you.
Our on-campus program targets students who wish to study English as well as Canadian culture, in order to have a contextual understanding of the language. This type of program is especially beneficial if you are interested in improving your English and returning home to attend school or enter a university or college in Canada. Professional students who wish to learn English for job related purposes have also found the course extremely helpful.
The online ESL courses are designed to assist students in a more traditional pursuit of the language. If you are simply seeking to write the TOEFL, or cannot study on-campus but wish to have a basic knowledge of English, we submit this program for your consideration.
The online ESL course is not for full-time study, and it is not for students wishing to ensure success in an undergraduate classroom in Canada. We believe that in order to prepare international students fully for competition in a first-year, university classroom a course must facilitate the acquisition of some level of cultural understanding, as well as a defined set of study skills from which students may draw throughout their careers.
The program is designed to offer you the following benefits:
1 It’s guaranteed! We
confidently extend the
CultureWorks guarantee to all
of our clients, knowing that
graduates are guaranteed to
achieve their required TOEFL
score, or they’ll receive
their money back.
2 It’s online. The program is
designed for students to
complete at their own school,
in their own computer lab, or
in their office, so the
program can be tailored to the
needs of each individual.
3 It’s designed for part-time
students. With a manageable
workload of 6-8 hours per
week, the program can fit
anyone’s schedule.
4 It provides a lasting,
fundamental understanding of
the English language. The
course is not merely a
preparation module for the
TOEFL. Course graduates emerge
with a solid foundation in
English and priceless
communication skills that
cannot be achieved from a
standard TOEFL prep course.
5 CultureWorks is a highly
credible organization. When
you study with CultureWorks,
you work with an established
EAP program located on the
grounds of two Canadian
universities - Brescia
University College and Kings
College. Both of these
institutions grant degrees
from the University of Western
Ontario – a university whose
reputation is world-renowned.
6 The curriculum designer has
world-class credentials. The
course leader holds two
degrees – a Master’s in online
learning, and a Master’s in
education.
7 It’s an exclusive opportunity.
Enrollment is restricted to
eighty students for the first
term, and will be strictly
observed. No class will
have more than twenty students
at any time.
8 You can personally attend a
FREE online demonstration.
We’re holding a free online
program demonstration in June,
and you’re able to attend this
simply by requesting an
invitation.
9 You’ll be glad you did it!
100% of our graduates achieve
their required TOEFL score,
and most go on to enjoy
further academic successes.
10 You’ll put yourself one step
closer to achieving your
dreams. There’s perhaps no
greater reward than knowing
you motivated yourself to
receive part of a high-
quality, international
education.
Students enrolled in the program will participate in a half-hour telephone conversation with their instructor once per month. This regular contact is our way of making sure that everyone involved with the program is 100% satisfied with the entire experience.
