Renseignements du répertoire historique
The international education programs at Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) provide opportunities for motivated students from other countries to study regular academic subjects and receive intensive English language training. The program was founded in 1997. EIPS' programs prepare students for university or college studies, entrance into the workforce, or recreational and travel pursuits. EIPS has an excellent reputation for effectively preparing high school students for the rigours of university or college. The university entrance program is an ideal tool for assessing and training students at a level that is appropriate for their abilities. It offers students a personalized program in which they can receive English as a Second Language (ESL) assistance, when necessary, with a challenging academic curriculum. International students may be placed in one of eight secondary schools within the EIPS system. Academic Year EIPS offers program levels ranging from grades 10 to grades 12, and an Alberta High School Diploma can be earned from these programs. EIPS operates from September to June, with 25 hours of instruction per week. Students completing all of the requirements for an Alberta diploma are academically qualified to apply to most universities and colleges in the world. EIPS assist all students in meeting their academic goals if they qualify with marks. Language of Instruction Basic education focuses on the core programs of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Physical Education, and Health, and on complementary programs such as Career and Technology Studies (CTS) and second languages. These courses enable students to meet graduation requirements. Instruction is provided in English, as well as French, German and Ukrainian in strategic locations within the division. EIPS Enrolment Full-time Undergraduate Students 2002-2003: 16,200 Part-time Undergraduate Students Fall 2002: 1,780 Programs Students may choose from several university entrance programs available throughout the division. One, two and three-year programs prepare students who are planning to continue their education at a post-secondary institution. Students in these programs study alongside their Canadian peers, facing challenging subjects such as Mathematics, Sciences, Physical Education, Social Studies, and English. Combining the core courses with electives such as Drama, Art, Band, Woodworking, Metalworking, and others, students receive a diverse education. An adapted core of courses, such as English and Social Studies, is offered as an introduction to the course content. When students are adequately prepared, they are introduced to the regular program.Site d’origine · Document historique
