The Faculty is committed to providing students with a high quality education in the liberal arts, in an atmosphere of social responsibility, and with special attention to interdisciplinary study. It is our aim to ensure that graduates of the Faculty of Arts at York will be well-prepared for, and thoroughly committed to, a life of continuous learning. Faculty members in Arts also provide a significant proportion of the intellectual substance of several high-quality graduate programs at York, as well as enhancing knowledge in the community through their research and scholarship.
Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies
Atkinson offers some of the largest and most recognized liberal and professional studies programs in Canada. The Faculty takes a unique approach to education: all professional programs have a liberal arts component and liberal arts students can easily complement their degree with professional studies courses and certificates. This approach ensure that students are able to gain from a blending of liberal and professional studies, and are able to explore the connections between these two worlds of knowledge and practice.
Whether your goal is personal development or professional advancement, Atkinson has the experience, the programs, and the commitment to make your university experience successful and rewarding.
Education
York University\'s Faculty of Education is committed to intellectual and professional excellence and to community service. Drawing on the best in academia and the teaching profession to provide theoretically and practically grounded programs that are socially relevant, York\'s Faculty of Education is distinguished by its commitment to exploring ways to address equity, social justice and environmental issues in all of its programs. It is a dynamic and a growing Faculty that enjoys positive relations with school boards and its professional constituencies, as well as with other academic disciplines at the University.
The Faculty offers two programs leading to the pre-service BEd degree: the three or four-year concurrent program for students simultaneously enrolled in other undergraduate Faculties, and the one or three-year consecutive program for prospective teachers who have already graduated in another discipline.
Committed to innovative practices, the Faculty offers programs that are academically rigorous and responsive to the diverse interests and needs of students. Our curriculum includes: a program in Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Education; a specialization in Jewish Teacher Education; a General Certificate in Educational Studies; a Masters and Doctoral program in language, culture and teaching; a Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education; and professional development courses and programs for teachers through the Office of Research and Field Development.
The Faculty values collaboration and an interdisciplinary orientation to education, as evidenced by its innovative staffing model in which tenure stream faculty work together with educators seconded from school boards and with colleagues from other Faculties across the University. The York Campus is ideally situated at the center of the Greater Toronto Area in an area of culturally diverse urban school settings in which the Faculty has a variety of innovative programs.
Environmental Studies
York University\'s Faculty of Environmental Studies was one of the first university units in the current era of environmentalism to be devoted to the field. As a separate Faculty we have developed our own distinctive degree programs emphasizing the integration of disciplinary, professional, and activist perspectives around a wide variety of environmental issues. For over thirty years we have been leaders in interdisciplinary teaching and research relating to natural, built, and social environments.
Environmental Studies is not only about natural environments, it is also about built environments, social environments, organizational environments, and all of the sets of relationships between them. The Faculty of Environmental Studies has been defining environmental studies in this way since 1968, beginning with a Master in Environmental Studies Program, then joined in 1991 by the Bachelors and PhD programs. Currently graduates from all three programs are working in all sectors of the economy, in Canada and around the world.
Fine Arts
The Faculty of Fine Arts at York University is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs of its kind in Canada, bringing together a community of some 2,400 students and 150 faculty working in all areas of fine arts practice and scholarship.
At the undergraduate level, York Fine Arts offers a combination of academic study (history, theory, criticism) and professional training (studio, production, performance) in six disciplines: dance, design, film & video, music, theatre and visual arts, plus interdisciplinary cultural studies in the fine arts. Most of the departments also offer graduate programs.
All York Fine Arts programs emphasize contemporary artistic production and processes, including the integration of the new technologies, alongside traditional modes of artistic theory and practice. There is a strong commitment to the inclusion of global cultures, to collaborative and interdisciplinary work, and to intercultural research.
Glendon
Glendon College is a liberal arts faculty of York University. It offers a variety of programmes in the humanities and social sciences. It is located on its own separate, mid-town campus.
Glendon differs from all other university faculties in Canada by offering its liberal arts education within the context of two languages and cultures, English and French. Moreover, unlike any other liberal arts institution, Glendon offers an integral bilingual experience: all students actually study in both languages.
Glendon distinguishes itself further thanks to its strong public affairs focus, small classes and high levels of interaction between students and professors.
Glendon graduates can be found in every public affairs domain. They often play prominent roles in government (at the federal, provincial or municipal level), in international affairs, the judiciary, the mass media, communications, the arts, industry, finance, business and education. They are active locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Graduate Studies

We have the largest full-time faculty, all of whom teach in our LLB Program, which admits 290 incoming students a year. We also draw on the resources of the Toronto Bar, and many of the finest practitioners in the country are our adjunct faculty. The result is an extraordinarily rich and varied curriculum that extends well beyond the conventional classroom and library experiences to involve hands-on clinical experience in both simulated and actual settings of legal practice.
As a student at Osgoode Hall Law School, you will be excited and challenged by ideas and experiences. You will grow intellectually and develop your interests and talents. And you will graduate with a better understanding of how to move ahead in your life and career.

Schulich School of Business
For more than 30 years, the Schulich School of Business at York University (formerly the Faculty of Administrative Studies) has focused on business education that graduates men and women who will succeed throughout their careers in a complex and constantly changing world. Founded in 1966 in Toronto, Canada\'s corporate centre, Schulich has built a strong reputation, both at home and abroad, for richly diverse, creative, real-world programs at the undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and executive education levels. These include Canada\'s first International MBA program (IMBA), as well as the country\'s first comprehensive offerings in areas such as Financial Services, Real Property Management, and Arts and Media Administration.
Students become strong generalists, and take every advantage of Schulich\'s wide-ranging specialization options. Schulich graduates build successful careers in the private, public and nonprofit sectors.
Schulich\'s faculty include award-winning teachers, authors and pioneers in their respective fields. Faculty research is a blend of rigour and relevance, as well as national and international issues.
Under the leadership of its current dean, Dezsö J. Horváth, Tanna H. Schulich Chair in Strategic Management, Schulich has become a global business school. Its broad-ranging strategic alliances in more than 45 countries worldwide include academic exchange agreements with more than two dozen leading management schools in the Americas, Asia and Europe.
The School\'s innovative programming and global focus attract private and corporate donors. In 1995, distinguished benefactor Seymour Schulich donated $15,000,000 to York University for the business school, the largest gift of its kind in the history of Canadian universities. As a result, the faculty was renamed in his honour. Mr. Schulich\'s endowment and subsequent gifts have made possible the creation of scholarships, academic chairs and teaching awards.
