Reasons to Choose CPIC: Location Canadian Provincial International College CPIC is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. All of the major landmarks are within walking distance of the campus including historic Gastown, Canada Place, the Vancouver Public Library, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and Robson Street one of the most famous districts for shopping and restaurants. Flexible and Specialized Programs CPIC encourages students to design their own individual programs to meet their particular needs from a number of course and scheduling options. Students can focus on building a foundations of the English language either full-time or part-time and afternoon classes can concentrate on other specific needs. Small Class Size and International Mix The average number of students per class ranges from 10 - 12. Students are tested and placed in classes where there is a mix of different cultures and language groups so English is the official language spoken during class time. There is a strict English Only policy in the classroom that is enforced to maintain the highest standards of learning in an immersion environment. Qualified and Dedicated Staff All CPIC instructors are not only highly educated but qualified TESL certified instructors and are dedicated to providing the best English language instruction available using the latest and most progressive teaching techniques and technology. Computer Lab The computer lab at CPIC offers the latest in E.S.L. software used to practice and reinforce language and grammar skills. It is also internet accessible using the latest in internet technology such as ADSL. All of the staff at CPIC are available for internet training and troubleshooting for all students who will have access to the lab. Open Library and Multimedia Facilities The students at CPIC use the modern multimedia facilities which can support them to develop and evaluate their ability to listen, speak and make sentences in writing as well. E.S.L. multimedia and audio-visual materials such as CD-ROMs and other English language teaching software are part of CPIC educational programs. Flexible Start Dates CPIC adheres to the policy of continuous enrollment and education which means that students can easily fit a specific course into their hectic schedule. Each course which is offered by CPIC starts on every Monday. Placement Test, Certificate and Step by Step Levels After arriving at CPIC, the student will complete a placement test. Based on the placement test score, the student will be placed in most appropriate level and class. After finishing each level, student can move up to the next level step by step. If class attendence, participation and homework have all been satisfactory, all students receive a Course Certificate of achievement at the end of their studies. Professional Communication and Semi Academic Course CPIC offers Professional English Communication and Research courses for the students who want to study more after the Advanced level. The curriculum focuses on developing professional techniques of communication,presentation and analysis skills. Active Student Clubs and Outdoor Adventure CPIC offers a variety of Student Clubs that each individual student can join. They can organize their own club or join the existing club so that they can maximize their time and choice of activities. Well organized and operated clubs can be chosen as the best clubs and will be motivated and supported by CPIC. Careful Homestay Selection and Free Counselling All CPIC instructors and staffs make every effort to ensure that students settle into local life as easily, quickly and comfortably as possible. E.S.L. Programs
▒ Program Length and Levels On your first day of classes at CPIC, you will be tested and placed in the appropriate level of class for your English language ability. Depending on your entry level and the time and motivation you have for learning English, your can study from 1 to 6 months. The levels at CPIC range from upper beginner to advanced. ▒ Writing Class You will review English grammar rules in the context of writing clear and concise sentences, paragraphs and essays. You will learn and practice complex sentence structure, English usage, paragraph development and essay writing. ▒ Conversation Class You will learn communication skills for everyday conversation and improve your listening and speaking. You will work in small groups and individually in order to practice pronunciation, fluency and accuracy while exploring different North American themes and customs. You will have the opportunity to learn new idioms and slang. ▒ Reading Class You will improve your reading comprehension and build your vocabulary base through readings and selected articles on current topics. You will also be ntroduced to special reading and study skills necessary for academic study and will improve your understanding of North American society and culture. ▒ Grammar Class You will enhance your grammar skills while exploring Western-style writing methods. Your will also build your vocabulary and develop reading and listening skills. You will practice grammar in all the skill areas, for example, reading, writing and listening formats. In this fast-paced and intensive course, there will be a quiz at the end of every class and a test at the end of every week. ▒ Listening Class You will greatly improve your listening skills in this intensive listening comprehension class. You will do listening comprehension exercises in class and have assignments to complete (with tape) for homework after class. All listening material is from authentic sources, for example news from TV and the radio, and will be dubbed onto individual tapes for students to borrow at the end of each class.
TOEFL & TOEIC Programs
▒ TOEFL Class This course will prepare you for the TOEFL test. You will practice listening exercises to improve comprehension of spoken English, grammar exercises focusing on verb tense and sentence structure errors and vocabulary and reading development exercises to improve your understanding of written English. You will also learn a variety of strategies for successful test taking. Every week you will have the opportunity to take practice tests. ▒ TOEIC Class This course will prepare you for the TOEIC test. You will focus on English oral and written skills using business language and vocabulary based on international business themes. You will practice reading, writing, listening and speaking skills using authentic materials about current topics in the business world. You will also have the opportunity to take practice tests on a weekly basis. The TOEFL program is a three-month course, which covers material from the textbook that we provide to the student. We also prepare the student for the CBT (Computer based test) in our fully equipped computer lab. For those students who want this option it is a very important component that we offer. As well, we also provide TOEFL and TOEIC tests that alternate every Friday afternoon. These are free tests that CPIC is preparing for their students to help them study.
Professional Communication Program
The third type of program offered at CPIC is the Professional English Communication Program. This three-month program is intended for the business professional who is planning to work in an English-speaking industry or a career that requires the intensive use of the English language. This program equips the student with the language skills, professional etiquette and writing skills required to succeed in the fast-paced and technologically advanced career market of today. The curriculum focuses on the communication skills, marketing and negotiation skills, cultural issues and international business issues necessary for succeeding in today’s competitive market. Students will have the opportunity to listen to guest lecturers in their chosen fields, have access to the latest updates on their particular career areas and can be interned in their area of interest such as Hospitality, Travel and Tourism and International Finance at various sites around the city. The program has three components which focus on different aspects of business communication and are one month in length. The first month focuses on applied business communication and practising the different types of communication using various written and oral examples. The second month focuses on international business communication and understanding business and social etiquette in cross-cultural settings. Students will have the opportunity to study the current trends and styles in business communication around the world. The third month focuses on interpersonal communication, refining research techniques and delivering a presentation based on a major research paper. Oral communication skills in delivering formal presentations and proper research skills will be strongly emphasized.
Business English Diploma Program
This advanced BUSINESS ENGLISH Program Consists of 3 months of intensive ENGLISH training specifically designed for those students who wish to immerse themselves in ENGLISH training while learning important and marketable business skills. The program consists of the following courses: - Business English Writing & Job Focusing (1 month) - Business English & Intensive Conversation (1 month) - Business English & Marketing (1 month) When the student Completes the BUSINESS ENGLISH Program at CPIC, the student will receive two separate diploma indicating their successful completion of the BUSINESS ENGLISH & JOB FOCUSING Program. *Note: Every Friday afternoon, CPIC offers TOEIC practice tests. These are free tests.
English Perfection Programs
If the student wants to concentrate more on their conversation techniques, the student would benefit most from taking the CPIC’s E.P.P. Program. The E.P.P. provides all the essential ESL programs (Grammar / Writing / Conversation / Listening) in the morning and the special E.P.P. classes in the afternoon. The E.P.P. Course is vital English training. It is designed for the student who wishes to perfect pronunciation, Intonation and fluency of speech. Students will learn how to pronounce accurately enough to be understood by others. First students will learn how to identify the problematic sounds, intonation, rhythm and stress patterns of English Pronunciation can be checked in single word groups but intonation and stress patterns need longer units of speech. Second students will apply these concepts to various real-life situations and practice in a safe learning environment. The English Perfection Program is offered bi-weekly.
