We believe that arts graduates have a critical role to play in the workforce. For this reason, we are committed to enhancing the professional development opportunities at St. Thomas for our arts students and have developed an innovative liberal arts co-operative education programme (BA Co-op) which, unlike other co-op programmes, is not discipline-specific. You may qualify for work-term placements in a broad range of job-market sectors, even those outside your major or honours discipline. The BA Co-op provides you with a variety of structured employment experiences and job-readiness skills which complement your university education and prepare you for employment success. As a student in the BA Co-op, you must complete three summer work-term placements approved by the University during the course of your degree. These positions are paid, supervised by the employer and the University, and are a minimum of 13 weeks in duration. Prior to the work placements, you will take orientation and professional development courses to ensure that your work terms are as productive as possible from your perspective as well as from your employer’s and the University’s. Co-op arts students complete the integration of their academic studies and their professional work experience in the fourth year with a capstone seminar in experiential learning.
