Vision, innovation, leadership
HEC Montréal, the first business school in North America to hold AACSB International, AMBA and EQUIS accreditations, is known worldwide for its teaching quality, its extensive research, its high-calibre students and faculty, its national and international roles, its contribution to the community and the resources and services it provides for students.
HEC Montréal was founded in 1907, making it Canada’s oldest business school. Over the years it has carved out an enviable place for itself on the international scene and forged strong bonds with the business community around the globe.
In 2002, HEC Montréal opened an international office, serving as an information centre on the School’s study programs and a liaison centre between European firms and our alumni.
HEC Montréal at a glance
- 31 study programs, from BAA to PhD;
- 220 full-time professors, graduates of the world’s most prestigious universities;
- a worldwide alumni network 40,000 strong, including 4,000 MBA graduates;
- 16 chairs and 22 research centres and groups that bolster the curriculum;
- an environment open to the world: HEC Montréal currently welcomes some 1,000 foreign students from about 60 different countries;
- one of the best-equipped trading rooms of any university, provided with real-time data by the Bloomberg and Reuters international agencies.
The Placement and Career Management Centre offers ongoing job search support for students and graduates alike, throughout their careers.
The School’s alumni association is present all over the world. It recently founded a European chapter, in Paris, and has set up a group of ambassadors who organize activities around the world and serve as contacts for alumni.

MBA
The HEC Montréal MBA, listed in the Wall Street Journal Guide to the Top Business Schools 2003, has been accredited by the Association of MBAs in the UK.
The MBA takes a practical approach, and offers a selection of generous admission scholarships. On average, students in the program are 32 years old, with 7 years’ work experience.
This distinctive program is also:
* intensive: offered over 53 weeks;
* offered full-time, in English or French;
* offered part-time, in French only;
* multilingual, offered in English and French with some courses also available as options in Spanish;
* international, with more than 55% of its students from abroad;
* divided into four phases:
- Phases 1 and 2: Fundamentals, basic skills and techniques;
- Phase 3: Acquiring a distinctive skill through five majors (energy management, corporate finance, investment and portfolio management, international business, marketing) or five minors (entrepreneurship, general management, human resources management, information technologies, supply chain management);
- Phase 4: Managing change.
