Contributing to the success of this award-winning program is its unique downtown location and a redesigned, course-based curriculum combining creative problem-solving with advanced computer training. Project-based courses help students create a distinctive portfolio as they major in a specialty area: Corporate Design, Advertising Design, Environmental Design, Illustration or Media Design. In many courses students work in teams to prepare them for a professional work environment. A regular series of presentations by industry professionals keeps students informed of the latest trends.
Complimentary membership in the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario is offered to all students, giving access to a network of Canada’s top design professionals and a headstart in the process to become a Registered Graphic Designer. The graduating class displays their best work in an annual exhibit at the Design Exchange which is open to the public.
All students enrolled in the Graphic Design program must take all Foundation Required Courses. These are arts, humanities and studio courses that provide a strong foundation in visual, verbal and written communications, critical thinking, design theory and practice.
Over the span of the program, students have the opportunity to choose 16 Specialization Electives. Having chosen a major, students take 6 courses within their areas of specialization to build a portfolio appropriate for a particular career. Registration in any Specialization Elective Course is permitted, and a student may take a variety of specialization credits prior to choosing a major.
