Practical English
Achieve success with CSLI`s most popular program, with 8 Levels from Beginner to Advanced. The interactive approach taken is what most students are seeking: a chance to learn practical day-to-day English. This course is structured to offer speaking, listening, writing and reading exercises, supplemented with grammar in a comfortable environment. Our teachers are professional, energetic and helpful. There is a maximum of 14 students per class. Classes include current topics, language functions, grammar, pronunciation and many chances to meet Canadians. This program is an excellent way to develop communication skills, gain confidence and make many friends. Full-time students can improve an average of one level every four to six weeks. Practical English is available full-time and half-time; intermediate and advanced students may combine this program with other options.
Business English TOEIC
The objective of this in-demand program is to give students a “hands on” opportunity to use all the skills needed in any business situation. A wide range of activities, including dialogues, exercises and role-playing, is used throughout the program to encourage communication among students. The curriculum is designed to improve technical grammar as well as overall business and English vocabulary. Every second week a comprehensive TOEIC listening and reading exam is given in order to allow students to track their progress throughout their studies. For best results, we recommend that students remain in this program for all three sections. It is possible, however, to begin at any time. There is a maximum of 16 students per class. Academic business communication skills are also addressed in this program. Official TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) results are recognized in many countries worldwide.
TESOL Diploma & Certification
TESOL Diploma is a 4-week comprehensive program includes a study of various teaching methodologies, classroom management skills, lesson planning and development, practical correction techniques, student and textbook assessment, and motivation skills. It is designed specifically for students who: want to be able to recognize their own mistakes, teach or tutor English in their own countries and wish to improve their public speaking skills. Students have the opportunity to make classroom observations and practice teach. The diploma program also requires students to give numerous individual and team presentations. TESOL Certification students will have the opportunity to learn everything that is needed to teach English to speakers of other languages. The course will prepare you to accurately assess a non-native English speaker, identify areas of strength and areas for growth, identify any potential learning barriers, motivate learners, prepare thorough interactive lessons which develop reading, writing, pronunciation and listening skills as well as oral fluency and language confidence. The course will also give you the opportunity to assess various textbooks, Internet resources and language acquisition materials. Students will initially give small presentations and short sample lessons in the training course and gradually plan and present entire units. In addition to the in-class portion of the TESOL training, students need to complete a four-week practicum component that includes observations, class assessments, team and independent teaching. The classroom component of the course is offered in the evenings (5:00 - 8:00pm) Monday through Thursday and the hours of the teaching practicum are quite flexible which makes CSLI\'s TESOL certification program accessible to all future ESL instructors.
TOEFL
This comprehensive program allows students to practice and develop all skill areas necessary to achieve a successful TOEFL score. The course is based on exercises designed specifically for TOEFL score improvement, listening focus, structure, reading comprehension and writing. Computers are also utilized in order to familiarize students with the computerized format of the official TOEFL test. Homework is assigned nightly from exercises designed to improve students’ use of prepositions, idiomatic expressions and vocabulary. Although this is primarily a grammar-based course, emphasis is also placed on the practical aspects of the material presented. Students are shown fun and interesting ways to improve their English fluency.
Academic
This four-week program specializes in grammar (including phonetics), writing and vocabulary. Unlike other classes at CSLI, it is not conversation based; it is designed for students who are interested in improving in particular (grammatical) areas and those who feel that they would benefit from a quick review of aspects previously studied. A typical day includes: 9:00- 9:50 Introduction to Grammar Point 9:50-10:30 20 new vocabulary words 10:50-11:15 Grammar Exercises 11:15-11:45 Reading 11:45-12:00 Writing
