Making Choices: Tips on Selecting an International School
Founded as the Vancouver School of Decorative & Applied Arts in 1925, Emily Carr Institute is one of the oldest postsecondary institutions in British Columbia and has become one of Canadas leading educational centers for practicing artists and designers. Emily Carr Institute is a provincially funded and accredited post-secondary institution The Institute is a member of AUCC, the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and an associate member of AICAD, the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design.
The Institute offers studio-based programs that lead to four-year undergraduate degrees including; Bachelor of Fine Arts: photography, print media, mixed media sculpture, drawing, digital production, painting, ceramics; Bachelor of Media Art: animation, integrated media (film, video, sound) and Bachelor of Design: communication design and industrial design.
The institutes small class sizes ensure that students benefit from relevant contact with experienced professional faculty members. Emily Carrs campuses are equipped with advanced facilities and resources, including: large light filled painting, print media and design studios; computer, digital and photographic production labs; indoor and outdoor ceramic, sculpture and woodshop areas; several art galleries, a library and an audio visual center. Third and fourth year students are also eligible to participate in our exchange and cooperative education programs.
The Institute is located in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on popular Granville Island in the False Creek harbour, in view of the North Shore Mountains and the downtown skyline. Granville Island is home to a bustling market and a variety of restaurants, galleries and theatres. The city of Vancouver supports a cosmopolitan mix of recreational and cultural activities. Renowned for its natural beauty, Vancouver is also Canadas gateway to the Pacific Rim and boasts many thriving, distinct ethnic communities.
